PESHAWAR: Former Test cricketer Wajahatullah Wasti was released from Peshawar’s central prison on Monday, four days after he had been arrested for allegedly injuring his step-brother.

The prosecution counsel Wakeel Khan informed Magistrate Muhammad Fayyaz Khan that Wasti had been arrested after he along with his brother Akhtar Sarfaraz injured their step-brother Rahatullah over a domestic issue.

The prosecution counsel further told the court that both the accused had been arrested but they were accorded interim bail by Additional Session Judge Riffat Aamir. They were rearrested after their interim bails were not extended on October 17.

However, both approached the court of judicial magistrate for bail who accepted them and they were released from prison on Monday.

Wasti played six Test matches and 15 One Day International matches between 1999 and 2000. His best ODI performance was 84 against New Zealand in the 1999 Cricket World Cup Semi Final which Pakistan won by nine wickets. Wasti has not played international cricket since May 2000.
